Mental health is equally important to physical health and vital to our overall well-being. StarCare Specialty Health System is investing in behavioral and mental healthcare with the construction of the Sunrise Canyon Hospital and Hope Diversion Center, which will house a new inpatient hospital and the HOPE Center for Health and Wellbeing.
With Parkhill as the architect of record, in association with architecture and planning firm Page, the process to understand the goals of the StarCare Speciality Health System leadership included an initial collaboration session and multiple detailed programming sessions.
The new inpatient hospital's vision is to provide the community with an inclusive, safe, and compassionate environment for behavioral health services. Hospital staff will also have adequate space to deliver higher-quality care.
The HOPE Center for Health and Wellbeing will be a Diversion Center Model of Care designed to help people experiencing mental health distress avoid facilities unequipped to handle those situations, such as emergency rooms, jails, and some inpatient hospitals. It will instead use crisis evaluation services, 23-hour extended observation, and community partner resources to treat patients.
