He also stresses the importance of maintaining a savings buffer, highlighting how it helps him enjoy time with friends without the stress of financial worries. Ryan's thoughtful insights not only highlight his understanding of finance but also his creative approach to addressing common issues. Ryan will be attending Purdue University in the fall!

Congratulations to Caitlyn M., one of our 2024 Neighborhood CU Foundation Scholarship Recipients! This year, we asked students to write an essay or submit a video that discussed the relationship of mental health and financial wellbeing. In her essay, Caitlyn discussed the close link between financial literacy and mental well-being, comparing their relationship to a marriage where harmony or conflict can affect all aspects of life. She referenced a Forbes article that shows how financial health impacts our mental, physical, and social states. Caitlyn shared her own personal story, explaining that while basic money skills are taught in childhood, deeper financial education often stops there. She introduced the "three-pillar effect," suggesting that lacking financial knowledge can lead to social, physical, and mental challenges. Caitlyn also highlighted disturbing stats from a 2019 survey showing how financial stress affects mental health and emphasizes the importance of financial education in preventing these issues. She advocates for starting with mental health support and then tackling financial education and debt management as crucial steps to improve overall well-being!
